2 more for OK

     I quickly sewed two more blocks this afternoon.  The first is Ribbon Star from the Solstice Stars Series by Faith at Fresh Lemons.

    The second used leftover HST from the Ribbon Star to make another star block.

        And here are the four blocks all together.

     Perhaps the four completed blocks can help me feel a bit more inspired to finish quilting the Starburst quilt tomorrow.

Blocks for OK quilt

    My newly forming guild decided that we would make a quilt to send to the Oklahoma City Modern Quilt Guild.  We are making 12.5" blocks in blue, green, gray and white to assemble into a quilt.  After sorting through my scrap bin, I had the blue Metro Living Circles already cut into the right size pieces to make a Greek Cross.  If I stare at it too long, the wonky circle alignment might drive me crazy, but it will be just fine mixed with other blocks in a quilt.

   
    After seeing Mama Love Quilts block for Boston from 99 Modern Quilt blocks, I decided to attempt a slightly modified version (also known as not seeking the book for the actual directions).  The color squares are 4.5, 4, 3 and 2.5 inches.  I think more contrast between the squares sizes would make me happier with the block, but I still like it.

  I doubt my goal of quilting the second Starburst will be accomplished by the end of the month.  I was stuck on the big project but feel the need to do some smaller ones to have some finishes.  My plan is to attempt another block or two for the OK quilt.  I want the quilt we send to be big enough but don't know how many other people will make a block.  Hope you all are having a great day.

Salt Water Plus

I started playing around with an idea to use the Salt Water fabrics that I have.  6.5" plus signs in an 8.5" block so I can rotate the block and stagger the placement of the plus.  

 I think I will need to make a few more blocks to decide if I like it well enough for the next quilt.

My daughter helped me make another flag for To Boston With Love.  She drew a few hearts and picked the placement of the hearts.  Beyond that, watching Winnie the Pooh was much more her speed this weekend.  We went to another Make it Together sewing class, Felted Flower Headbands.  She designed her headband, but had too much fun with the spinning chair that she wasn't super helpful sewing the flowers on the headband.  She's worn the headband nearly every possible minute of the past two days.

As for progress on my three goals for May, my Starburst 2 quilt is now basted and ready for quilting.  The backing for the Fruitcake strings quilt is ordered, the paper has been removed, and the quilt has been pressed in preparation for basting.  I have not yet touched the blue HST.  I'm hoping to start quilting the Starburst quilt in the evenings this week after work.  Hope you all had a great Mother's Day weekend.

May Just Three

I've lurked and thought about participating in Just Three at traceyjay quilts for awhile, but this time I'll set out three goals for the month.  I've been set the goals a few days ago, so I think it is fair that I completed some of the work this weekend.

1.  Put together the Fruitcake String quilt top and take off all the paper from the back.  (I put the blocks together this weekend, but have not started removing the paper.)

2.  Baste the second Starburst quilt and quilt it.

3.  Trim those blue HST that I already made and pressed so I feel motivated to make a bunch more.

Star Value bee block

Melissa wanted a 20" Star Value block using low volume prints and happy, scrappy colors from her tutorial.  I only had the Dear Stella tear drop print in my stash (and enough for one square using the Quilt Blocks grey triangles), so I had to go pick up some low volume fabrics at my LQS.  I guess I'm not trendy.  

The colors look a little washed out from real life because I took the picture in bright sunlight.  The block was pretty easy to put together, and trimming the 40 HST blocks didn't take too long.  I didn't jump at the opportunity to trim my blue HST that have been waiting for weeks.  But now I think I'll go enjoy the sunny day.
